Desborough Sailing Club hosted the latest event of the Somerville series on 6th September 2008 for the splendid model of a British Moth crafted in 1949 by John Schilling of the home club.
Six visitors joined the seven Desborough members, and the first race commenced with a beat against a very strong current and winds that were extremely variable with frequent severe gusts to catch out the unwary. Many capsizes occurred but Colin Hall showed excellent control to take the race win with Olly Saunders second and Mark Wiltshire third.
The lunch break was followed by the second race in similar conditions, and again it was Hall who showed his mastery of the conditions to win, second was Richard Broughton, and third Olly Saunders who has recently returned to the class after a long absence.
Race three followed a similar pattern, Hall in pole position followed home by Saunders , but Gary Tompkins managed to get ahead of Broughton to claim third spot.
The event also marked the 60th Anniversary of Desborough Sailing Club, and a splendid Celebration Dinner followed in the evening complete with an excellent Jazz band. This rounded off an excellent days sailing and Desborough are to be congratulated for their legendary hospitality.

1st Colin Hall (Hunts SC)
