Sunday saw the Leader open meeting at Buckenham Sailing Club with crews from St Albans and Milton Keynes joining the local boats.
The first race saw juniors Michael and Peter Cullum taking an early lead. As the race progressed, their lead narrowed, seeing them eventually overhauled by three boats. All four finished within fifteen seconds of each other, Chris and Jane Wharmby taking first place.
By lunchtime the wind had increased slightly. In the second race the Cullums and the Wharmbys swapped first place on a number of occasions. The youngster's good start gave them a slight advantage to the windward mark. However, their boat, without a spinnaker, proved slightly slower than their rivals. The Wharmbys maintained a small lead untill they left a sizeable gap when rounding the leward mark which allowed the juniors to nip through. Some good cover tacking enabled Michael and Peter to take the winning gun.
This pattern repeated itself in the third race. The surprise winners overall were BSC juniors Michael and Peter Cullum sailing the club's Leader. This was an impressive performance, as they'd never sailed together in a Leader before.
Overall Results:
1st M. & P.Cullum
2nd C. & J.Warmby
3rd J.Barton & J.Howard & J.Gilmour
