After 2 years of strong winds, we had to pay for it this year. On arrival there was very little wind and you could on just see the far jetty from the Club House in the fog.
The Moth sailors on duty decided to use all 8 marks in the light NE breeze, including a starting beat from the hut up to the infamous green. In the first race, Ken Elsey taking advantage of local knowledge led for 2 laps with Jon Clarke and Colin Newton coming through on the final lap.
In race two after being over the line a 2nd time, Jon Clarke went up the first beat to the green mark in his own personal wind and continued to pull away for the rest of the race. Halfway through this race the wind changed to the SE, with Ken coming through on the final beat ahead of Brian Kitching and Colin Newton.
Race 3 was on new course with SE breeze. The 3 boats of Jon Clarke, Colin Newton and Ken Elsey had a good start and lead away from the rest of the fleet to finish in that order. With Jon taking a well earned early shower, the battle for second place was between Colin Newton and Ken Elsey. With places changing several times, Colin’s slightly better pointing ability meant that he finished 5 metres ahead of Ken.
