28-30 April 2009
The popular UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge will be run for the 6th year on 28th, 29th and 30th April in the waters of the Solent.
As the event has become more well known and respected invitations have been extended to the other emergency services and there are now 5 Police services, two ambulance services and one mountain rescue service entries as well as 23 entries from UK fire Services. This makes the event, probably, the only 999 sports event in the country.
Apart from the benefits of the emergency services competing in a single event and having the opportunity of meeting with colleagues and making friends in a non emergency situation therefore fostering better relations, it provides a platform to raise money for charity. This year the charities benefiting from the event will be The Fire Fighters Charity and COPS (Care of Police Survivors).
The event committee are very grateful to the many local and national companies who have generously donated prizes for the raffles and auctions that raise much of the money that will be donated.
Gala evenings, sponsored by telent Technology Services Limited, will be held at the Cowes Event Centre on the nights of the 28th and 29th and we are delighted that Nick Ward, author of Left for Dead, will be attending our first night and giving a presentation on the fateful events of the 1979 Fastnet race.
More details of the event may be found on our website at www.ukfsc.org.uk
