Topper Open at Priory Sailing Club

by Paul Hunter 1 Sep 2004 10:56 BST 28 August 2004

Priory Sailing club in Bedford hosted its first Topper Open meeting on Saturday 28th August. Fourteen boats entered and in the light and variable winds produced mixed results in the first three races leaving six helms in contention to take the meeting on the fourth race.

Race 1 was sailed in a dying wind and after one lap Sarah Poxton from the home club lead the fleet home followed by Josh Gosling and Yvette Allen.

After an early lunch break the wind filed in and Race 2 was won by Fiona Allen with Luke Steaggles and Rebecca Patience following closely behind.

Race 3 produced yet another name at the front with Luke leading the fleet home from Yvette and Sarah Poxton.

In the final race Fiona once again found the front only to be followed home by Sarah with Chris Abbot coming through to claim third place. Consistent sailing gave the meeting to Sarah Poxton with Luke Steaggles second, leaving Fiona Allen third despite two well earned race victories.
