24-28 June 2009
Already ten weeks before the annual sailing highlight in Kiel will begin a great number of 17 boats have so far signed up in the temporary entry list on www.x-35.com . After the successful World Championship of the X-35 class in the Olympic Centre in Kiel-Schilksee two years ago the organizers are confident to reach the same number of entries as in 2007.
Besides this year’s X-35 World Championship the X-41 class will be sailing out their European Champion for the first time during Kieler Woche. On Wednesday, 24 June at 2pm (X-41) and 2.05pm (X-35) the races will start on the offshore race area ‘Alpha’ north of Kiel lighthouse. Until the prize-giving ceremony at 8pm on the second Saturday of Kieler Woche up to 15 races are scheduled for each class.
“We are very pleased that these attractive One Design classes make a stopover in Kiel. The promising number of entries so far is showing that the sailors are enjoying Kieler Woche and its optimal conditions”, said Ecki von der Mosel, Chairman of the Offshore Race Committee. Only recently the X-41 class was granted international class status which now entitles them to officially host championships. Another special motivation for the X-35 and X-41 sailors will be the winner trophy: a Tutima yachting chronograph handed over to the helmsman of each class. As already in 2007 the German chronograph manufacturer is sponsoring its instrument watches made out of pure titanium. The valuable timepieces were especially customized for sailors as they can cope with the toughest demands and with that they are certain to be the perfect companion for every yachtsman.
