Arrives in London on 14th May
The Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain Voyage of Discovery is a unique and inspirational project. Having started from Cowes on 3rd May, 85 young people in recovery from cancer, across 17 different legs are sailing the 48 foot yacht ‘Scarlet Oyster’ 2000 nautical miles around Britain on a four month voyage with one cause; to inspire young people’s cancer recovery through sailing. On Thursday 14 May the Voyage will arrive in London with Dame Ellen MacArthur onboard and will sail up the Thames underneath Tower Bridge at 11.00am, before mooring alongside HMS Belfast.
Ellen MacArthur is available on the day for interviews at HMS Belfast and preview interviews this week.
The Voyage provides a unique opportunity for the young people sailing to return to the paediatric oncology wards of the hospitals they were treated in and communicate their experiences and recovery path to those currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
To coincide with the Voyage Ellen MacArthur is giving a series of public talks across the country about her life and future career – this is the first time she has spoken publicly since her record breaking round the world voyage in 2005.
