New 'Race' safety lines hit the spot
Ultra-compact and nearly half the weight of conventional 25mm/2-clip lines, Spinlock ‘Race’ series lines are transforming crew mobility.
The high strength 16mm line is clipped to the vessel with a new lightened clip and the other end is cow-hitched onto the lifejacket harness, saving the weight of a second clip.
An ISAF recommened Overload Indicator warns of any loading above 500kgs. ‘Stretch’ versions keep slack line clear of potential snags on deck, and three-clip versions enable safe transfer between attachment points.
Because any safety line can become unreleasable under tension, we always advise wearing a Spinlock ‘S’ Cutter or dedicated knife for cutting free in an emergency.
PXR release the Viper
The Viper 640 is a high performance one design sports boat of 21ft which combines the stiffness of a keelboat with the acceleration and planning abilities of a dinghy. Built by Rondar, the Viper 640 has a strong following in the USA with over 100 being actively raced.
Many owners are changing to the PXR0810 camcleat for mainsheet and asymmetric halyard controls. With Viper’s powerful sail plan and big fleets, their crews have to make split-second decisions knowing they can release any load quickly.
Kinder to Melges knees
Melges 20 crews contort themselves into all sorts of positions to get out every last bit of
speed from these wickedly fast one-designs. Knees and elbows take a lot of punishment. Spinlock kneepads are commonly used at Melges regattas for their effective abrasion protection and knee support.
Thanks to great support from Audi, Melges 20 fleets have grown fast with strong and growing
attendance at USA and European circuits.
Titan goes for complete Deckvest and Race system
The newly launched 75’ Reichel Pugh designed ‘Titan’ 15 took line honours in the 185-mile Block Island Race.
With a full offshore program planned for 2009, Titan have chosen Deckvest lifejackets for the
24 crew along with the new STR/2L and 3L Race lines. As well as complying with ISAF
advice, Spinlock Safety Lines offer a few kilos of useful weight saving over conventional 25mm lines.
12 Metre revival
The Shake-A-Leg Foundation in the U.S. recently acquired the 50-year old 12-Metre ‘Easterner’, with the aim of offering therapeutic sailing programs to disabled adolescents and adults.
Overcoming Easterner’s lack of any sail control Pit, Spinlock have worked hard with the Foundation making a secure sail-handling system for use with a mixed crew of disabled and able-bodied sailors, using a combination of Spinlock jammers and clutches.
‘Easterner’s’ goal for 2009 is the 12 metre Worlds at Newport, Rhode Island in September.
Aerodynamic Scuderia 50
Best known for Italy’s favourite F1 team, Scuderia translates literally as ‘a member of the
top performing team from the best racing stable.’
In the Scuderia 50, Felci Yachts Design have recessed XX0812 Powerclutches and TS Aft Organisers for a successful balance of sailing performance, ease of handling and aesthetics of essential deck equipment.
Eco Jammers
Danish Yacht have completely transformed ‘Ecover 2’, the former Challenge 67 to continue her work around the world in promoting products that have the minimal ecological impact.
As well as onboard systems such as a sewage treatment plant, the deck and rig controls have
been updated to work more efficiently, a change in its previous configuration suited to a full crew of 17.
ZS Jammers mounted on deck and Nordic Spars rig now offer simpler control and release than the original layout, with crew able to operate both in the cockpit and at the mast on their own.
