Streaker Open at Priory Sailing Club

by Alan Simmons 13 Sep 2004 12:04 BST 11 September 2004

Race one saw John Burgione from Tamworth SC quickly established an unassailable lead with the rest of the pack fighting for the runners up positions. Alan Simmons from Lancing SC initially held that spot but was soon passed by Ian Mansfield of Ardleigh SC and then by Geoff Birch of Haversham.SC. Ian then took a swim, or two, and in the fifth and final lap Alan got back to second place followed by Ian and then Geoff , all in a very close 10 second fight at the line.

Race two was a repeat performance by John Burgoine and the same three, Ian, Alan and Geoff contested the runner up spot. Ian leading that group for the first two laps took another couple of dips and retired. leaving Geoff and Alan to battle on. Alan managed to get ahead in lap 3 and stayed ahead to the finish.

John did not need to sail race 3 but led again comng unstuck when he fell into an enormous hole in the wind on lap 2. Alan managed to pass him after making up on the beat. It was a short lived lead as he also found a hole and on lap three was pitched in by a rogue gust. This left Geoff with a well deserved second place behind John.

Neither of the two other visitors, John Simmons of Stewartby SC and H Williams of Port Dinorwic found the unpredictable conditions to their taste nor did the two youngsters Alex Poxton (1st under 18)and April Hill of Priory SC but they did sample the waters - quite warm was the opinion expressed.
