The final day of the GYGSC Sprint series of the year was sailed at Gorleston on Sunday. A shifty offshore breeze made course setting difficult for Race Officer Richard Brown but competitors enjoyed three closely fought races.
A pack of three RS400s led by Chris Sallis and James finished well ahead of the following boats. Sallis taking both line honours and overall win on corrected time. Veronica and Ben Falat, sailing a Fireball climbed to second on corrected time.
Martin Brown and Di Holmes, opened up a large lead in race two wining by over two minutes on corrected time, the Falats again finishing in second place. In the final race of the series Sallis made the most of the shifty winds and had a good lead at the windwind mark. Brown and Holmes slowly closed the gap and finished just ahead to take line honours and the win on corrected time, Sallis finishing in second and Richard Fryer in another RS400 ,showing consistency with his third, third place of the day.
The Sprint series is sailed over windward / leeward courses over five Sundays throughout the year. There were 29 entries ranging from Lasers to Hobie Tigers with RS400s making up a third of the total boats. Overall winners were Richard Fryer and Carol Smalls sailing a RS400, second place went to Martin Brown and Di Holmes in another RS400 and Phil Highfield and Tasmin Butcher, sailing a RS500 in third.
