Cadet Worlds and Promotional Regatta at Puck, Poland Overall

by David Elliott 10 Aug 2010 21:01 BST 24-31 July 2010

Krzysztof Malecki & Mikolaj Mickiewicz (POL 9734) are this year’s Cadet Class World Champions. Their final tally of 14 points included six firsts, a second and two thirds. Runners-up were Anton & Julian Sasson (AUS 5509) on 39 points with fellow Australians Alec & Samantha Bailey third with 57 points.

Top placed British team and winner of the Ladies Trophy for best-placed female helm were Katie Barr & Scarlett Anderson (GBR 8435) in fifth place, with Henry Mills & Robert Keen (GBR 8845) one place behind in sixth. Max & Francesca Ingall (GBR 8855) were 15th, Abigail Croft & Alex Page (GBR 8363), 21st, Ben Binmore & Martha Jones (GBR 8440), 25th, Louise Latham & Aaron Chadwick (GBR 9635), 51st and Oliver & William Palierakis (GBR 7495), 56th.

No racing was possible on the final day due to a lack of wind. The Race Officer kept the boats on the water until the last possible moment, but to no avail. This was particularly disappointing for Andrew Smith & Jack Collings (GBR 9243) who were lying second overnight in the Promotional Event.

With only the last day’s race to be sailed, Andrew & Jack were level with Emil Sawicki & Jakub Niekowal (POL 9848) on not only points, but also with the same number of victories. However, Emil & Jakub had two seconds to Andrew & Jack’s one. Five GBR teams finished in the top ten. Mary Henderson & Annie Sibthorp (GBR 8561) were fourth, Nicholas Sutton & Charlie Barr (GBR 8844), eighth, Alex & Lucy Corby (GBR 9000), ninth and Caroline Croft & Jacob Payne (GBR 7274), tenth.
