A weekend visit to Skandia Cowes Week by Rodney Ireland paid dividends when he was announced as the winner of the Raymarine prize draw. A keen sailor, and well known as the Chairman of the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust, Rodney won a Raychart 400 Portable Global Positioning System (GPS) Chartplotter, which he said would be ideal for use on his 39 foot motor-sailer Sonnet of Autumn.
“I was absolutely delighted to win the Raychart 400,” said Rodney Ireland. “My boat is already equipped with Raymarine electronics, and I had been considering buying a portable GPS to have as a secondary back-up device. I had also been toying with the idea of getting an electronics chartplotter, so to win a combined GPS and chartplotter was ideal.”
Rodney and his wife Karen regularly go long distance cruising, spending summer holidays as far afield as Spain and Scotland. Now, with the ability to see electronic charts from all over the world, and to prepare routes and sail plans, as well as view their exact position while on the move on the Raychart 400’s colour screen, the Ireland’s will be able to view and plan their future trips while at home or on the boat.
Designed and manufactured by Portsmouth based marine electronics manufacturer Raymarine, the Raychart RC400 is intuitively easy to use. Rodney Ireland will be able to use it in double quick time having taught navigation and worked on some of the early versions of electronic chart systems prior to joining the Board of the Isle of Wight Healthcare Trust.
