Worcestershire School Sailing Association is delighted to share with Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre
the prestige of hosting this national event at Upton Warren on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd October, when
nearly 100 sailors will travel to Worcestershire with many adult supporters.
Over the weekend, we plan to run over two hundred races. This is an amazing opportunity for Upton Warren
to demonstrate how a national event can take place on a small lake, with the help of around fifty volunteer
helpers, mainly from regular lake users, Upton Warren Sailing Club.
Unlike most other youth racing this NSSA event is a team challenge! The kids sail in teams of three, meaning
they have to work together using communication skills, a high level of team work and of course team tactics
to deliver the best overall team performance.
Upton Warren has successfully hosted this event on two previous occasions, in 1998 and again in 2004. On
both occasions, teams from around the country left Worcestershire having shared a fantastically unique
experience, while enjoying a high level of competition and friendliness which our venue provided. We are
looking forward to this opportunity again.
The WSSCA is affiliated to and shares the aims and aspirations of the NSSA, which is the UK’s largest youth
sailing club, and promotes sailing as part of the educational experience of young people. NSSA is a registered
charity and was formed in 1961; WSSCA has operated for twenty six happy years at UWOEC.
The NSSA organize five national events each year in various venues around the country. These events
introduce dinghy racing to both first time participants and those already racing in RYA and class association
events.
