Fancy winning a completely restored and refurbished Cadet dinghy?

This year the Yachts and Yachting stand (C74) will be host to the Marine Trades’ Association ‘Boating on a Budget’ project which has just taken ownership of ‘Cute’, a well-known Burnham on Crouch dinghy.

The Boating on a Budget Project is the brainchild of David Lewin, a former President of the British Marine Federation and resident of Burnham on Crouch. David has always enjoyed sailing and is extremely keen to encourage more people, of all ages, to take up the activity

David said “The dinghy will be completely refurbished by the Burnham on Crouch RNLI crew and raffled to raise funds for their Floating Boathouse appeal which will be home to their new Atlantic 85 Lifeboat this summer.

“Cute’ has languished at the back of the dinghy park for some considerable time but is now destined to receive new decks, all new Harken fittings, a new Selden rig as well as a new suit of sails and foils.”

The boat is currently being restored in a temperature controlled shed in Rice and Cole’s boat yard in Burnham. To see her fully refurbished and to buy a raffle ticket visit the Y&Y stand where she will be on display throughout the show. The staff who worked to restore her will also be around to answer any of your questions.

And if you’d like to try your hand at doing the same thing, there will be another unrestored hull on display that will be auctioned off by sealed bids. All visitors have to do is write what they think it is worth to them, place it in a sealed envelope and they could be taking home their own bargain dinghy project!

The winning raffle ticket for ‘Cute’ will be drawn on the Yachts and Yachting Stand on Sunday 6 March at 3pm and the winner of the auction will be also be announced shortly afterwards.
