Police appeal for information after valuable and unique clothing is stolen from a sailing club in Ashford

Detectives in Spelthorne are appealing for witnesses after specialist clothing worth more than £23,000 was stolen from a sailing club in Ashford earlier this month.

The incident took place at the Queen Mary Sailing Club in Ashford Road between 8.25pm and 8.40pm on Sunday 13 March.

A white Ford Transit van approached the club and the suspects got out and stole a large number of specialist clothing items used in sailing from a storage unit.

The clothing taken included Neil Pryde and Crewsaver Kasmira brand buoyancy aids and Gill Hydrophobe thermal tops for both men and women.

The suspects then got back into the van and drove down Ashford Road towards the A308 Staines Road West.

The owners of the site have offered a £2,500 reward for anyone providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the burglary.

Detective Constable Rene Murdoch, who is leading the investigation, said: “The stolen items are both expensive and unique and we a carrying out a number of enquiries to locate them.

“This was clearly a planned and targeted burglary where the suspects have attended the location in the early evening and stolen a large number of high value items over a very short space of time.

“The stolen clothing is very specialised and is only available from a small number of shops across the country.

“I would like to hear from anyone who has been approached about purchasing second hand clothing for sailing anywhere in Spelthorne as they may be able to provide vital information to assist this ongoing investigation.

“I am also extremely keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the white Ford Transit van used by the suspects on Sunday evening, particularly if they saw where the vehicle went following the break-in.

“Surrey Police will not tolerate burglary offences and I can assure Ashford residents that everything possible is being done to bring these cynical offenders to justice.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference SL/11/2078, or call in confidence on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Call 0845 125 2222 for all non-emergency policing matters.

Call 999 if you have a genuine emergency requiring the attendance of the police (eg a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger).

Call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have information about crime and don't want to leave your name.
