Entries now open for the Sussex Regatta

by The Secretary, Sussex Yacht Club 23 Mar 2011 06:54 GMT 29 April - 1 May 2011

Sailing through the royal wedding – entries are open for the 2010 Sussex Regatta sponsored by Southern Masts and Rigging, supported by the Shoreham Port Authority and hosted by Sussex Yacht Club.

The Sussex Regatta will take place on Friday 29 April 2011 and entries are now open. Details, including the Notice of Race, are available from www.sussexregatta.org.uk

The regatta is held every year on the Sussex coast, usually over the Easter weekend, rotating between Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club, Brighton Marina Yacht Club and this year’s hosts, Sussex Yacht Club. It is organised by the Sussex Combined Clubs Committee, constituted from the hosting clubs. This year the SCCC is pleased to welcome Arun Yacht Club onto the committee.

The regatta regularly attracts over 40 boats and is the main event in the Sussex County Championship. It will be held over three days (29 April – 1 May) with a programme of eight races. Shoreham Port Authority is generously providing moorings for competitors, free of charge. Prizes are being provided for each class and a new overall winner’s trophy has been donated by Southern Masts and Rigging.

Every night, social events will round off the day’s activities, with [of course] a toast to the royal couple after Friday’s racing!

An innovation for this year’s regatta is the inclusion of a non-spinnaker, ‘gentleman’s class’ to encourage as many boats as possible to take part, including those that are not full-on adrenalin junkies.
