Yngling Europeans at Fraglia Vela Riva, Lake Garda - Day 2

by Fraglia Vela Riva 6 May 2011 07:40 BST 4-7 May 2011

Change of leaders

Another great day today at Riva del Garda for the Yngling Spring time European Championships. With lighter winds (8 to 10 m/sec) and lower waves three good races were completed bringing the total races to five since the start of the competition yesterday. Between location and the organization of Fraglia Vela Riva, the championships are always spectacular, rich in races, wind and competitive to the very end.

Today saw the Dutch crew of Otte-Haven-Oost take the lead (from second position yesterday). Dropping into second place, five points behind, were last year's winners Jamin-Smolders-Berens, not showing their best form today with a 8-12-5. In third place and equal in points are Gotschalk-Nittegard-Brendstring of Denmark taking a 1st in the 2nd race.

On the attack are Austrians Mayr-Knittel-Spaengler who, after today’s first two races, reached the top three with a 1st and a 4th followed by an 8th which subsequently gave them 4th position. It will be a tight race for the podium especially for 3rd place since there are very few points separating about six crews.

Keep an eye on SLO1 with Antoncic-Strakh-Nevencny showing good form today in the last two races with a 3rd and a 2nd and also AUT 276 Riha-Skolaut-Postel, winners of today's final regatta. Races start tomorrow at 13.00.
