7-10 July 2011
With less than a week to go entries have been rapidly increasing for the inaugural edition of Barratt Homes Plymouth Race Week. Individual classes can now be confirmed for J24, J80, Seascape, IRCA and IRCB. The event is also hosting the MOCRA Nationals. As the Commodore of the Royal Western Yacht Club, Chris Arscott said, “here in Plymouth we have all the facilities to offer a high quality event in a top-class sailing destination” and this event looks set to do just that.
There are three entries from the Toe in the Water teams – with one sailor, Charlie Martell, bringing his rowing boat to display. Already a double-Guinness World Record holder, in April 2012 Charlie is planning to row solo across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to the US.
The social programme will ensure the après-sail party is as exciting as the racing, with live music from the likes of Rhythm Machine and Mad Dog Mcrea. On Thursday 7th famous auctioneer Graham Barton will be hosting the charity auction in aid of Help for Heroes; pledges include a track day at Silverstone, a driven pheasant shoot and a VIP trip on Plymouth’s big wheel.
There is still time to get your entry in; forms can be downloaded from www.plymouthraceweek.org and if this wonderful weather is making you itch to be out on the water, several boats are still looking for crew – please contact the Royal Western Yacht Club if you are interested.
You can now follow the action on Facebook- ‘Plymouth Race Week’ and Twitter- @PlymRaceWeek . Even if you are not sailing we hope to see you shoreside – our tented race village is situated by the Mayflower Steps on Plymouth’s historic Barbican.
