Optimist Europeans at Tavira, Portugal - Day 5

One day before the end of the IODA European Championship 2011, to complete the two races scheduled for today, the sailors were challenged by the strong tides on the off the coast of Tavira Island.

The weather conditions remained consistent with SW (225 °) wind with intensity between 6 and 7 knots. The main difficulty for young sailors today "were the combination of the strong tides with the light wind", said Andres Perez, President of the Jury.

The male leadership is once more dominated by the spanish sailor Luis Cabrera, followed by the greek Patelis Nikolaos and the italian Luigi Michelini in the 2nd and 3rd position.

The italian Francesca Bergamo also keep the first position, followed by Maria Caba, from Spain and the czech Nikol Stankova.

For tomorrow is schedule one race, starting at 13h, which precedes the consecration of the winners of this championship.

After 11th races, in the top ranking are:

Boys Group:

1st Luís Cabrera - ESP
2nd Patelis Nikolaos - GRE
3rd Luigi Michelini - ITA

Girls Group:

1st Francesca Bergamo – ITA
2nd Maria Caba – ESP
3rd Nikol Stankova – CZE
