It was a light and tense day at the Talisker sponsored RS Elite Championships hosted by the Royal Forth Yacht Club in Edinburgh today, with patchy breeze and a few significant swings in direction making consistency very difficult. All credit then to the Brown family in Aeolus who’s 2,1,1 scoreline made it look easy, but they had dropped several places before recovering in race 1 and literally took race 2 on the finish line by a chute length.

Martin and Amanda Wadhams and Paul Fisk in RSsailing.com won race 1 after pulling through to the lead on the first run. They followed up with a 3rd and 5th to lie second overall overnight ahead of John McDowell in Sea Breezes from Northern Ireland in 3rd with a 3, 7, 4 scoreline.

Local heros, and Elite National champions in 2009, the McLeans had two shockers by their high standards, to open their series but found form to finish 2nd in the last race of the day.

Tonight’s social programme kicks off with a whisky tasting provided by Talisker, which will undoubtedly test the championship resolve of the large Irish contingent who have made the trip to Edinburgh and are currently occupying 3rd to 6th overall positions.

The forecast for tomorrow is for more breeze, which will be a relief to many crews here in Scotland and probably the race officer too.
