Yesterday started the biggest offshore event in Eastern Europe, at the Marmaris International Yacht Club. More than 140 boats from all around the World visited the beautiful gulf of Marmaris to participate at this well organized event.
The fleet is divided in 8 different IRC categories, four IRC racing and four IRC Charter. The IRC Charter includes crews that enjoy sailing and are having a great time here. The event includes inshore and offshore races as well as parties almost every day on the dock. Live music, dancing, costume contest are just some fof the many side events that are taking place at the port, after the races.
The wind yesterday was really light, but around midday the sea breeze filled up the gulf and the race committee was able to start the races. Four different starts were given and Marmaris gulf was almost big enough for the 145 boats to sail in it.
In IRC II Class, the Turkish boats filled the top three places. UZUN is in first place, MATRIX in second and MATRAK in third. NIKITOO from Bulgaria is leading in IRC III Class, followed by ANNA from Russia and ISKORPIT from Turkey. Finally in IRC IV, BOOMERANG from Turkey is on top and behind her is BLUE BIRD II from Turkey and KALIMERA from Greece. In IRC I Class BY FARR LEMON - ARKAS is leading the fleet.
At the Charters fleet things were more relaxed and the crews were having the most fun out of the day. In IRC CHR I Class, PEARL with international crew is leading and is followed by HAKUNA MATATA from Romania and BRISTA from Russia. MARTLET from Russia is on top at the IRC CHR II division and behind her are NIGHT&DAY from Australia and YUKSEL D3 from Russia. In IRC CHR III Class, PERSEY from Russia is first, YUKSEL D2 is second and THEMIS from Belgium is third. Finally in IRC CHR IV, ATILLA II from Germany is in front of ALINKA from Australia and HADAR from Russia.
All the crews had a great time at the ceremony that followed after the races and awards were given at the top 3 of every class. Today an offshore race of 25nautical miles is scheduled and the day will be long for all the crews, because the forecast is not very promising and the wind is not going to pick up all day.
