Following a two weeks break for the Christmas-New Year holidays, the 18ft Skiffs return to their Sydney Harbour course tomorrow (8 January) when they contest the Cordukes Clubhouse Trophy race.
Giltinan champion Gotta Love It 7 team of Seve Jarvin, Sam Newton and Scott Babbage is the ‘scratch’ marker in the 3-buoys event, giving starts of up to 10 minutes to some competitors.
Even the recently crowned NSW champion Thurlow Fisher Lawyers team of Michael Coxon, Aaron Links and Trent Barnabas receive 2 minutes from the ‘7’ boys.
The race is the final hit out before Race 1 of the Australian Championship, which begins on Sydney Harbour on Sunday 15 January.
Thurlow Fisher Lawyers is the defending championship of that event and will be looking to keep up the form which took them to the NSW title.
The world’s premier 18ft Skiff event, the Giltinan Championship follows the Australian Championship (from 17-26 February) and brings together the best 18 Footer teams from USA, New Zealand and UK, as well as Australian teams from NSW, Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia.
