Neilson launch shore based ‘Theory School’ at its UK sailing centre in Brighton
Neilson Active Holidays, an established Brighton based provider of overseas holidays and water sports training, is delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Neilson Theory School’. A full and comprehensive programme of shorebased RYA courses is to be introduced and will be available throughout the year at the company’s offices on Brighton Marina. It will operate alongside, and as a perfect compliment to the current Neilson UK sailing programme and will focus entirely on theory based qualifications.
Neilson has been offering sail training and holidays for over twenty-five years during which they have gained the reputation for being the market leaders for training and introducing newcomers to the sailing world. The company has been established in Brighton for more than 10 years and operating a UK Sailing School at its base on Brighton Marina since 1996. The company is therefore in a superb position to extend this training facility in order to offer a full portfolio of theory based courses at a RYA accredited centre.
The range of courses to be offered will include ‘Dayskipper’, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster and Ocean – all of which provide essential navigation and seamanship skills. The courses are ‘intensive’ and will be structured over 5 and 7 day periods, or across a series of weekends. All the courses will take place at Neilson’s Brighton head office building which offers excellent, comfortable facilities with on-site teaching and catering facilities.
Paul Stringer, an RYA Chief Instructor will co-ordinate the course schedules and each of the courses will be supported by a team of highly experienced and world-class instructors, who’ll participate on a freelance basis.
Pete Tyler, MD at Neilson said:
“We’ve offered water based courses for a number of years and our pre-flotilla training courses and yacht racing days have encouraged an immense number of inexperienced sailors to progress into self-skippered flotilla cruising in safe, fun and encouraging environment. It’s only natural that these sailors will seek to develop additional skills as they build confidence. Along with the unprecedented level of enquiries about UK sailing theory courses that have been received – it seemed that the demand for an accredited shorebased training school was too good an opportunity to pass by. We look forward to welcoming our first course participants!”
Course costs range from £90 per student for either a first aid course or VHF/SRC course to £440 for a ‘Coastal Skipper’ course across 3 weekends.
