Yet another fantastic year for the Streaker Class at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show! Once again visitors to the stand were plentiful and all were given the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes courtesy of Pinnell & Bax, Rooster Sailing and Sail Register!
The competition challenged visitors to guess the area of the WAVE sail, with a little clue, and many took the opportunity to examine the WAVE sail on display to get a better idea. None other than Olympic Laser sailor Paul Goodison popped over to the stand to help membership secretary Nick Lovell draw the names out to determine who, from the closest answers, won the four prizes on offer, two sets of P&B foil bags, £50 off a boat cover at Sail Register and a Rooster Pro Aqua Fleece.
With 2012 being the centenary year for Jack Holt, a special display of some of the dinghies he designed was shown in the west corridor. Taking pride of place was a well-crafted, home built Streaker belonging to Hugh Ambry. This was the first boat to be built to the new digitised plans and as such was both modern and traditional, helping to tell the story of the class.
The Streaker Class Owners Association looks forward to another strong year in 2012 with national championships at Grafham SC, Inland championships at West Riding SC, a northern series in association with Sail Register and a southern series in association with P&B. Perhaps 2012 is the ideal time to give a Streaker a go, why not check out www.streaker-class.org.uk and organise a trial sail.
Finally the Streaker Class Owners Association would like to thank P&B, Rooster, Sail Register and Butler Boats for their participation and all those who helped out with the stand over the two days. May 2012 be a fantastic Olympic year of sailing.
