The last race of the Crouch Yacht Club Hydd Gwyn Series took place in wet and windy conditions, with gusts up to 30 knots coming through at times. Three boats ventured out, with Double Trouble and Just Is having reefed mainsails.

The boats started well shy of the line, with Inn Spirit crossing the line to start first, over 20 seconds after the gun. The boats went up to Cliff and Canewdon, before returning down river to Number 7, then up to 13, down to 5 and finishing just before 12 o clock.

Inn Spirit held the on the water lead, and on the down wind leg from Cliff to Canewdon, Double Trouble gybed away from Just Is to try to gain advantage. However, he failed to claw any time back from Just Is and rounded Canewdon in third, but in touch with Just Is.

The order on the water remained the same, and on corrected time, Inn Spirit the Humphreys 11m owned by Alan Bartlett, sailed by Ian Hart took first, with Frank Curtis and Carole Pickett’s Just Is second, and Duncan and Beccy Haley’s SJ320 Double Trouble third.

Overall, Inn Spirit won, with Double Trouble second and Just Is third. The Hydd Gwyn trophy was presented to Ian Hart at prize giving by past commodore Jo Barker.
