Datchet Water Sailing Club hosted the rebranded, relaunched and revived National School Sailing Association Inland Championships on Saturday and Sunday June 2/3.
Almost 100 boats ranging from an RS800 to Optimists through Toppers, Tazz and Fevas took part as Rookies on a course close to the clubhouse or out on the main course with class racing for Laser Radials and Toppers whilst everyone else had seven handicap races. Conditions were benign if a little damp, with a steady force 3 (a bit shifty on Sunday). With four races sailed on the Saturday, sailors coming off the water at 6pm and three back to back races on the Sunday enabling an early getaway sailors had good racing in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Rookies were lead by Sol Thornton of Datchet Water in a Topaz Uno, from Daniel Taylor of Warwick School and George Cunningham of Cambridgeshire both in Toppers.
The Handicap racing for the Earl of Plymouth Trophy was dominated by Lasers being won by Joe Simmons of Porchester in the sole Laser Standard Rig while Laser 4.7's were second and third with Hannah Whiteside of Cambridgesire leading Jack Rocket of Warwick School.
Winner of the Carnac Trophy for Laser Radials was Freddie Chiddicks of Alton Water with Daniel Wigmore of Nothamptonshire second and Ben Rolfe of Frampton on Seven in third place.
The Oxford Gong for Toppers was won by Edward Higson of Worcestershire from Phobe Connellan of Middle Nene and Harriet Ward of Queen Mary SC.
The Oxford Team Shield for the best performance from a Team went to Worcester with a win in the Toppers and 3rd and 5th in the Handicap, just beating Cambridgeshire and Queen Mary Sailing Club.
