Vassiliki Watersports Festival - Preview

It is with great pleasure that I invite you and your club members to join us in Vassiliki, Lefkada for the 5th Annual Watersports Festival and International Sailing Regatta.

This year’s racing programme commences on Thursday 28 June with a Yacht and Catamaran race some 20 miles from Vassiliki around the island of Arkoudi before returning to Vassiliki’s harbour for the evening’s Prizegiving and entertainment, with course racing scheduled for Laser, Open Catamaran, Open Dinghy and Windsurfing Classes on both Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June.

A newcomer to the Event will be a Laser Slalom competition to take place on Friday and Saturday evenings; this will be a novel format involving 2 Laser boats racing one on one against each other on a parallel downwind course just off the beach where skill at gybing in particular will be crucial to success. The competition will be on a knockout basis, with the option for a ‘repercharge’ round if conditions allow, and our main sponsors, Wildwind Sailing Holidays are offering €500 prizemoney to be shared among the top 3 places.

Wildwind Holidays are also offering the chance for FREE rental of up to 6 Lasers (either 2011 or 2012 boats) to the first 6 teams to respond to this letter and who will compete in both the Friday and Saturday Laser racing events.

There will be a nominal 5 euro entry fee per person for the event. Accommodation will also be available at prices from 10 euros per person per night.

Already we have received confirmed entries from international teams from Italy, Holland, UK, Austria, Slovenia, Greece, USA and Australis and we are looking forward to exciting times on and off the water.
