Three class wins for Hyde Sails-powered boats
The 2012 Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series, held over the Jubilee Weekend, delivered some spectacular racing in Loch Fyne.
Racing started on the Friday with 7-8 knots of breeze and wall-to-wall sun. Three races were sailed for the IRC classes, all windward-leeward, and the competitors hit the shore tired but satisfied after an excellent day’s racing.
Saturday saw more breeze, 12-18 knots, and more sun. Three races were run for the IRC classes, one windward-leeward, one triangle and one ‘P’ course to treat competitors to another great day.
On Sunday, there was more great racing as the whole fleet went round Inchmarnock island, four hours of sailing in 15-20 knots and sunshine. However, after three amazing days of sailing, the wind failed to materialise on Monday and the event finished early.
There were plenty of Hyde-powered boats racing, and the event ended with three of them topping their respective classes. In Class Class 1 IRC, Playing FTSE (a Beneteau 47.7), which has a mix of sails including Hyde’s, used its Hyde kite all regatta and took the overall class win by two points, finishing the regatta with three straight wins.
In Class 2 IRC, the Hyde-clad First 36.7 Carmen had a promising event. Although she failed to make the podium, she did post a first, second and two thirds during the course of the weekend and certainly showed occasional turns of speed, as did Animal, an Elan 380, which had two thirds, while Baccarat, a Dufour 40, had an enjoyable if less successful regatta.
In CYCA Class 5, the Sigma 400 Sunrise was racing with a full inventory of Hyde Xtech sails, winning on countback by virtue fo more firsts than her nearest rival.
Meanwhile, in CYCA Class 7 things were also tight, with the Trapper 28 Redwing, also racing with a full inventory of Hyde’s, winning by a single point ahead of Mercenary.
