Singapore making history
The sixth day of fleet racing here in Santo Domingo finds the Singaporeans dominating in both boys and girls categories. The young Dutch Bart Lambriex is 5th with 3 Americans in top 10.
The day started with a light breeze and the 4 groups sailed 2 races each. The weather was shifty and the battles were fierce. The young Singaporeans managed to score several bullets and are now holding the top 4 spots.
It is the first time in sailing history that one nation is in top 4 spots in a World Championship; the level of the Opti sailors is obviously very high, however the national team of Singapore is generally admitted at an even higher level than everybody else.
The young Dutch helm cannot dispute their superiority, however, he can still steal 4th place.
The Americans have had nearly as good a performance. With 3 sailors in the top 10 spots, they are running by far their best Opti sailing event lately.
Let's see what can happen tomorrow, with 2 races still to go.
