Nine out of the top 10 for Mach2 at Moth worlds on Lake Garda

by Simon Payne 12 Sep 2012 17:11 BST 12 September 2012
The Mach2 International Moth © Mark Smith

With one of the finest and most successful Moth World Championships of recent times now complete here is the gear guide from that event. This shows equipment choice in more detail.

With such a high quality and diverse fleet comprised of 120 boats from 22 nations, this makes for interesting reading. Mach2 Moths were the most successful design occupying the top 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10 places with 81% of the fleet sailing the Andrew McDougall designed/McConaghy built boat.

It is also apparent that KA sails and in particular the new KA MSL16 sail, designed this year and as used by the new World Champion Josh McKnight from Australia, is the most popular sail choice.

Look a little closer however, in particular at the column on the far right, and the age of the sailor's reveals as much about the class as anything else. What a spread! The winner was 21 and the guy in 5th place overall is 57 years old. Look further down the fleet and its clear that there are some very fast 40 - something's lining up against the younger guys and girls.

The Moth class is one of the fastest growing classes around, where Olympians and Corinthians have fun alike. With one of the widest demographics of any class, is it time your next boat was a Moth? For more information about Mach2 Moths email or visit our website www.mach2boats.com
