Mirrors at the Waldringfield Sailing Club Cartoon Trophy

Seven Mirrors competed in Waldringfield Sailing Club's Cartoon Open on 15/16 September.
Saturday brought late-summer sunshine and a steady force three for most of the day. The consistency of Chris & Sean Woodard and Neil & Lia Fletcher earned them 1st and 2nd places respectively in each of the day's three races. Mark & Rebecca Hodge took 3rd in races two and three.
Saturday was notable for three juniors racing for their first time - Grace Curry Hyde (6-years), Alice Rains (8-years) and Bethany Page (10-years).
Sunday's weather was cloudier, breezier and more challenging for the younger crews. Chris Woodard - now crewed by daughter Ciara - started where he left off the previous day with 1st place in race four, followed closely by the Fletchers and Hodges.
Race five saw a change in the finishing order for the first time with a win for Mark and Rebecca Hodge followed by the Woodards and Fletchers.
Having secured their overall win, the Woodard boat left it to the others to fight for honours in race six which was claimed by the Fletchers who had got away early and were never caught. Mark and Rebecca Hodge took two places in the final beat to claim a 2nd in race six and 3rd overall. Dan Ryder-Davis, from Deben Yacht Club and crewed by Matt Ambrose took 3rd place.
An enjoyable weekend with some very close and competitive Mirror racing.
