Due to inclement weather, winds out of the west between 20 and 25 knots combined with severe sea conditions caused by an overnight storm, yielding a force of 50 knots deemed the race course on day one of the 2012 Audi Melges 20 Gold Cup unfit for racing - ending in stalemate.
After a delay of three hours, PRO Fabio Barrasso postponed racing until Friday, November 2 at 10.30. The weather conditions are expected to improve significantly in the Gulf of Napoli with forecasted west winds between 10-15 knots.
Organized by B-Plan Sports & Event in collaboration with Melges Europe, the International Audi Melges 20 Class Association and Circolo Canottieri Napoli, the Gold Cup will consist of a maximum of ten races to be held from Thursday, with a 10.30 am start time, through Sunday.
In Napoli, teams will enjoy the Audi Experience. Throughout the weekend, the drivers of the Audi Driving School Experience will entertain their biggest fans with a series of test drives lasting of about 20 minutes. The guests will demo the latest Audi automotive models including the new A3.
In addition to Audi, Eberhard & Co is a sponsor of the Audi Sailing Series and recognized as the official timekeeper. Musto is also a viable sponsor for the Audi Sailing Series.
