Tim Riley and Luke Burywood won the 420 class and overall championship at The Club Vela Blanes International regatta held between the 2nd & 5th January 2013.
The regatta held in Blanes Spain consisted of 9 races in a wide variety of conditions including an offshore, northerly 12 to 18 knot breeze with a 2 metre easterly swell and the more typical early morning North West 5 to 8 knot breeze.
The races started at 9 am which resulted in having to rig in the dark and hitting the water at first light, which was normally accompanied by a stunning sunrise.
Luke and Tim won the event with a race to spare have put in a very consistent series including 5 firsts in often very tricky conditions.
The boys used the Zeta mast section which compliments their weight and has great flexibility to sail in these wide ranging conditions. Zeta is stiffer than Kappa allowing heavier crews to power up early but it is softer than Cumulus so is still easy to de-power in changeable conditions.
Luke commented 'it was great to sail in some sunshine and have good boat speed which made it easier to get to the pressure first'.
Tim added 'the changeable conditions made it important to get the rig set up properly especially as the wind died during the races so a versatile mast system was vital'.
