Canada's Bertold remains positive despite tricky breeze forecast on Day 2 in Hyères
The opening day of ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères tested over 800 sailors with light and fickle breeze across ten Olympic and two Paralympic events.
More of the same is predicted on the second day of racing as Canada's Isabella Bertold explained, "I think it's probably going to be light wind again, I saw a forecast for 6-8 knots which will be better than it was yesterday so hopefully that comes through."
Sailors had to maintain concentration on the opening day as they waited for the breeze to fill in. Bertold added,"I guess you just try and focus on what is really important. At one point yesterday we had a 50-point pin wheel around one of our marks and you've just got to keep a good sense of humour and remember it's fun out there and keep trying to pick away where you can."
A north easterly 3-5 knot will veer to the east and hitting 6-8 knots later in the morning before hitting a peak of 9-12 knots early in the afternoon. This is expected to decrease as the day goes on and into the early evening.
The Qualification Stage ends today in Hyères with sailors battling to make it into the gold group and Bertold wants to end well ahead of the Final Series, "I'm just trying to keep consistent and stay in the top froup and when the Final Series begins that's when it's time to win races and be at the front of the pack."
Racing is scheduled to start in Hyères at 11:00 local time.
