25 boats racing under VPRS for monohulls and MOCRA for multihulls gathered in Poole Bay for the PYRA Spring regatta over the 18th and 19th May.

Very light winds shifting through 30/40 degrees, provided a challenge for the race officer who following a lengthy postponement was able to start race one of a four race series. All classes were able to complete a race in 5/6 knots other than Class one who were alas abandoned following confusion over the course, splitting the fleet after two legs.

Waiting for race two the fleet were joined by a pod of 8 or 10 dolphins to at least provide some interesting viewing waiting for the wind to fill.

Race Two saw all classes avoiding some significant holes around Poole Bay, but providing sufficient wind for all classes to finish.

Following Saturday evening entertainment hosted by Poole Yacht Club, race three was started in almost mirror like conditions on the Sunday morning following two legs all fleets were virtually becalmed for nearly an hour and when eventually the wind did fill a little, unfortunately some of the later boats found themselves out of time and forced to motor back to the committee boat.

Race four provided better conditions for all and also enabled Class one to re-sail a further race and complete their series.

In Class One Ian Braham's MG346 the lowest rated boat on the fleet was to eventual win over Alan Bennett's J109 the highest rated, by just one point, testament that the VPRSA rating system is working well.

For Class two the ΒΌ tonner sailed by Terry Dinmore dominated and Nathan Corby in 'Dream On' did likewise in class three.

The multihulls saw 'Smithy' Di Broadbent and 'Wardance' Paul Butler battling it out, 'Smithy' the eventual victor.
