Guido Miani's Out Of Reach dominated day one of racing at the 2013 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series in Portoferraio with a solid 1-3 performance taking the overall lead. IM20CA President Manfredi Vianini Tolomei on Maolca holds firm in second followed by Mirko de Falco's Peccere in third.
After a morning postponement, two races were conducted under light and unstable breeze, making for challenging day of racing.
Race one saw Miani at the top of his game taking the win. Renato Vallivero's Audi Ultra Giacomel did well to finish second, just ahead of Francesco Farneti's ITA-157 for third.
The second and final race of the day belonged to de Falco. Vianini Tolomei fought hard, successfully holding off Miani to take second. Miani settled for third, while Rob Wilber on Cinghiale cleaned up in fourth, and former Gold Cup Champion Alessandro Rombelli on STIG placed fifth.
The 2013 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series is organized by B-Plan Sport&Events in full collaboration with the International Audi Melges 20 Class Association and Melges Europe. A maximum of six races are scheduled over the next two days.
The remaining Series events are Torbole (6-7 July) and Porto Rotondo (29 August - 1 September) where the very first Audi Melges 20 European Championship will take place.
