Brookes Bell Mariteam Spring Series in Docklands - Day 2

10 June 2013
The evening of Monday 10th June was the second day of racing in the Brookes Bell Mariteam Series. The event is sailed in Bosuns provided by Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre on the Isle of Dogs. The competitors are drawn from the London Maritime Law and Insurance community.
The wind was an easterly six to ten knots blowing straight down Millwall Outer Dock which made for close competitive sailing in the four short races.
The first race was led from start to finish by Michael Wood (Reed Smith) with novice crew Jan Foster. Second was Guy Main (Holman Fenwick Willan) with Philip Kelleher as crew.
Race two was the first of Guy's series of good starts. He was at the committee boat end and at speed when the gun fired (whistle blown). This was impressive as the committee boat was secured to the dock wall which left little room to manoeuvre. Guy was then able to use his start to stay in the lead and carry on and win with Alistair Roaf (Brookes Bell) and crew Roger Daniells following in second.
Race three was the long one, two laps of the elongated triangle! Guy again won the start and continued on to win with Alistair second and Drewry Cooper (Hill Dickinson) with crew Ed. Hicks coming third.
Race four was a repetition of race three making Guy Main the overall best helm for the night.
Everyone then gathered in the bar for drinks and sandwiches, and where we were joined by Michael Chanouzas (Sachs) who, unfortunately, had missed the racing but did go for a sail.
Our thanks go again to Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre for use of their boats and organising the racing.
