Winners announced at Crewsaver Abersoch Dinghy Week

by Crewsaver 29 Jul 2013 18:57 BST 21-26 July 2013

After six days of competitive racing in warm weather and good winds the winners of this year's Crewsaver Abersoch Dinghy Week were announced.

Crewsaver Abersoch Dinghy Week 2013 saw over 210 boats take to the water in a variety of classes. Fleets included the RS 400, Asymmetric, Fast Mixed, Fireball, Laser Radial, Laser STD, Optimist, Phantom, RS 200, Single Mixed, Slow Mixed, Solo, Tera and TTMMF.

A great week was most certainly had by all. Mike Bishop winner of the Tera, Topper, Mirror, Miracle and RS Feva class sailing his Mirror Dinghy with his 4 1/2 year old said, "I have had a fantastic week, and will be coming back next week to compete in Mirror Week!"

Nick Orman winner of the Phantom Fleet also confirmed a fantastic week and will be spreading the word of Dinghy Week around the Phantom class.

The Solo fleet was the largest fleet with 38 boats. Colin Coombs who was sailing in the Solo class celebrated his 40th year participating in Dinghy Week! Colin quotes, "I love Abersoch and will be back again."

The prize giving was conducted by Andy Teague, organiser of Dinghy Week. Prizes were donated and presented by Crewsaver. Both Andy Teague and Sally Budd quote, "we are delighted with how the event has gone, numbers have been up on last year and we can only hope that people will spread the word and we will have even more sailors next year!" They also thanked the sponsors of the event Crewsaver, GJW Direct and Abersoch Boat Yard.

Mark Blanchard received an award from GJW Direct for his hard work and determination, participating in every race of Abersoch Dinghy Week despite having had a stroke less than a year ago.

Nick Higginbotham, winner of the fast mixed fleet, congratulated Andy Teage and Sally Budd for organising a fantastic event at the end of the prize giving.

Dates for next year's Abersoch Dinghy Week were also announced, and will run from 27th July - 1st August, a 2014 date for your diary not to be missed. The organisers advise competitors to get accommodation booked early to avoid disappointment. Following the success of this year's Dinghy Week it's difficult to see how the organisers can better it. However you can be sure they will be having a good go!
