It is rare to find such a comprehensive and professional sailing sponsorship campaign as Oman Sail's and they should be applauded for their efforts.
Their sailing team has already grabbed many offshore headlines and the future looks exciting for them as the hugely experienced and charismatic Sidney Gavignet and Damian Foxall link up to lead an all-star team in the Rolex Fastnet Race on their MOD70. Round the World Yachtswoman Dee Caffari will join them, along with some of the young Omani sailors who have come through the comprehensive programme that has seen over 11,000 youngsters learn how to sail already.
Gavignet's brief is to not only win some of the world's blue riband offshore races, but it is also to provide the most talented young Omani sailors with the opportunity to learn how to compete against the world's best in sailing. The programme will see over 70,000 Omani sailors go through their educational sailing programme and Oman is already midway through a programme to build 8 new sailing clubs by 2020, whilst hosting major international events, such as the Laser Worlds.
There is no doubt that Oman will become a major force in sailing in the future. But for now let's enjoy watching their progress on their phenomenal MOD70 sponsored by Oman Air as they take on the Fastnet and also the Transat Jacques Vabre.
