Yesterday the Optimist World Team Racing Championships was held. The original intention was to race only until the semi-finals but the wind and light stayed good and the Race Committee decided to press on to the final which was concluded at 2045. From a exciting final pool the results of the Team-Racing event were:
1. Argentina
2. Brazil
3. Croatia
4. Finland

The failure to qualify of Peru marks the end of an era. They have been Optimist World team-racing champions for the last three years.
Perhaps equally disappointed will be Malaysia - they did qualify (the first Asian team other than Japan ever to do so) but failed to realise the fact and sailed off to compete in the subsidiary Long-Distance Race, leaving Finland with a first round walkover.
One more race was sailed in the fleet racing World Championship - Sime Fantela still leads.
