Port Navas, one of only two sailing clubs on the Helford River in the south of Cornwall, has come to the market with Savills at a guide price of £1 million.
The Helford River is considered to be one of the most beautiful and unspoilt rivers in Cornwall, with its deep sheltered valleys, ancient oak forests and hidden creeks that cut inland along this sheltered part of the South Cornwall coast. There are still many small quays on the river-creek as well as a pedestrian ferry linking the north and south banks. The safety and seclusion of the Helford River has much to do with its situation within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
According to Jonathan Cunliffe and Ben Davies from Savills Truro, this sale represents "a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone with a love of sailing to buy their very own yacht club".
Believed to have been built in 1955, Port Navas Yacht Club lies close to the Duchy Oyster Farm near the head of the creek, immortalised in Daphne du Maurier's novel 'Frenchman's Creek'. The main building comprises two large apartments with a studio above, a waterside terrace and a private patio garden. In addition there is the single storey bar-restaurant premises with kitchen and its own creekside terrace, besides useful stores.
The nearby villages of Constantine and Mawnan Smith provide a range of shops and amenities, whilst the harbour town of Falmouth with its marinas, National Maritime Museum and Royal Cornwall Yacht Club is also close at hand.
Ben Davies from Savills who is marketing the property comments, "The Helford River and estuaries continue to offer safe swimming and sailing facilities from a sheltered inlet from which to explore the coast, much of which is owned and protected by the National Trust.
"With much appeal as a waterside residence with income, the yacht club has additional income from the holiday apartment, restaurant, pontoon berths and creek moorings. We also believe that it will also work well as a private individual residence, subject to any necessary consents."
