Crosby SC held a different style of racing to which they are normally used to on Sunday 29th December. The club and Crosby Lakeside Activities centre where they are based, have recently received the use of two 2.4mR keelboats from the class association and Sailability. Two staff from the centre kindly came down on their days off to assist rigging and launching, and a little sailing!
In contrast to the weather over the Christmas period, the day could not have been better. Sunshine, blue skies and fair winds with no rain clouds in the sky.
The first rounds were sailed over two laps of a windward / leeward course. Race coaches and other knowledgeable persons stood on the jetty to cheer on each match and give advise, or not. The best knowledge was sometimes discounted, how to use the jib boom was given to one challenger who replied "what do I want to use that for?". He had to be reminded that it was not his usual solo, and this boat had TWO sails.
The other super phrase which tickled the others sailors being "hang on a minute, I've got to do my hair" only three of the 14 sailors there, were under 35yrs and had hair.
A fabulous day was had and the results will carry through the forthcoming year, for the club match racing champion.
