On 9th March, 19 skippers turned up for Woking MYC's first Open meeting of 2014.
Visitors from clubs as far afield as Keighley (W. Yorks), Eastbourne (E. Sussex), Huntingdon (Cambs) and Portsmouth (Hants) arrived to a beautiful sunny day with plenty of breeze to get these exciting boats up to speed.
The event was held at Goldsworth Park Lake, near Woking, which provides an excellent location for sailing model yachts.
The friendly team put on a great day of racing, and even organised the perfect weather, with steady winds and sun throughout, ensuring an enjoyable day for all.
The competitors enjoyed really close racing with a quick turnaround for draws, which meant many exciting hours racing on the water.
The event results were very close at the top with equal 1st place going to Buzz Coleman and Trevor Binks on 7 points.
Keith Tyson's "Dragon Force 65" holding off Matt Riley's "Cobra" for 3rd place and Woking MYC's very own, Drago Pinterec scoring a respectable 5th place overall.
Of the 19 entrants 16 were Dragon Force boats. These came home in the first three places!
Dragon force 65 model Yachts were introduced to the marketplace in 2013, with a design remit to provide superior performance at an affordable price.
Kits are available for around £150 almost ready to sail, with just a modest amount of rigging needed in order to get you afloat quickly, a perfect introduction to this exciting sport.
The Dragon force 65 is now prolific across most model yacht clubs in the UK and is regularly sailed in racing events.
