The 2014 Anglian Water Series got underway at Middle Nene Sailing Club with 17 sailors competing in Toppers and Optimists.
Local Joe Anstee counted two bullets to win the 13-strong Topper fleet at the event on April 19, one point ahead of Hollowell's Andrew Sturt. Morgan Smith, also Hollowell, was third with Northampton's Max Lewis fourth.
Four Optimists made up the slow fleet with victory going to Banbury SC's Harry Spalding, a point ahead of Hollowell's Hazel McDonnell, with Draycote's Millie Irish third.
Special prizes for endeavour were awarded by coaches David and Arran Holman to Sarah Chiswell and Rachel Wyss in the Toppers and Optimist sailor Aimee Bray.
With a decent breeze and some sunshine providing good racing, matched by a warm welcome at Middle Nene, it was a great way to get the series started.
Organised by Northamptonshire Schools Sailing and Canoeing Association, the series comprises five friendly sailing events at clubs within 45 minutes of Northampton.
It is open to junior and youth sailors of all abilities in any class of dinghy, with coaching in the morning and three races, two to count, in the afternoon.
The next event will be at Cransley SC on Sunday 11th May, followed by Banbury SC on Saturday 28th June, Hollowell SC on Saturday 5th July, and concluding with Northampton SC on Saturday 27th September.
