Day 1

The European Spring Yngling Championships are under way as always at Fraglia Vela Riva on Upper Lake Garda. The event ends on Saturday, 3rd May with a maximum of 8 races scheduled. The Yngling became an Olympic boat for the women's match race at the Athens Games in 2004. Around twenty boats and sixty sailors are taking part from Denmark, The Netherlands and Austria. Even though it was raining on first day of the event, there was a good wind from the north which allowed two races to be completed. Leading at the moment is Frederik Zafiryadis of Denmark with two second partials. Just behind him is the Dutch crew helmed by Maarten Jamin with a fourth and a first. Tied on points is the other Dutch crew of Lieuwe Gietema who has the same score but in reverse, (1-4).

Days 2/3

The European Yngling Springtime Championships are currently under way on Upper Lake Garda, courtesy of organisers Fraglia Vela Riva, and continue through to Saturday, 3rd May. So far the Dutch crew of Gietema-Kuiters-Tromp dominates the field with three firsts, two seconds a fourth and an eighth in the first seven races of the event. On day two of the regatta, two races were completed with a steady, southerly wind of 12 knots and despite the rain three races were completed on the third day, Friday, 2nd May with a northerly wind of 10 knots. Lying in second place is another Dutch crew with Maarten Jamin at the helm who in today's races started off in style notching up two firsts and a fifth. His crew is four points behind the leaders with only one race left in the competition.

Trailing 10 points behind them in third place are Austrians Mayr-Knittel and Spaengler. Dropping way back are the Danish crew with Frederik Zafiryadis at the helm. They had been leading after the first two races but were too inconsistent to stay in the top three. (three seconds were alternated with a 9-14-15).

It's a double treat at Fraglia Vela Riva tomorrow as the last race of the Yngling takes place in the morning while in the afternoon until Sunday, the National Regatta of the 470 class gets under way in the run up to the Olympic week which starts on May, 7th with the heats of Garda Trentino Olympic Week, 2014 and the 1st leg of the Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup on the programme. This event is organised by Vela Garda Trentino together with the consolidated clubs of Upper Lake Garda.

Results after 7 races can be found here.
