RC Laser TT round 3 at Two Islands Radio Yacht Club

by Neil Coleman 6 May 2014 17:06 BST 3 May 2014

The day started with a glance at XCweather it promised next to no wind followed by no wind. Folks were on their way representing clubs from as far apart as West Lancs, Droitwich, Harwich and Kent so we had to make the best of it.

Courses were changed, refreshment pauses were chosen when the wind got light and racing continued apace when the breeze filled in for a few minutes. In the end we got in 17 races before concluding just after 3 o clock.

What wind there was come from the North and NE always a shifty direction at Two Islands as it has to pass around one of the two islands. Patience, skill and luck are required on such days. From the results it can be seen that Dave Fowler was the man in form with all three, with 11 wins to his credit with no finish outside the top three.

The battle for second place was more in the balance with Adrian Tomlinson and Neil Coleman slugging it out throughout the day, in the end Tomlinson took the 2nd place with two of his 3 wins coming in the last two races. Coleman took two wins in the morning with the remaining race win going to Roger Atkins with his first TT Circuit win.

Great sailing!

Many thanks to Mike Stevens, Paul Hunter, and Jill Coleman from Two Islands for their efforts keeping the event running, moving buoys, start and finish line duties and the scoring.

With the wind forever increasing in strength a couple of 'D' rigs were brought out The showers had just about died out on arrival, to leave us with a nice Blowy Westerly. No need for the big sails today and it was a decider for the next 2 sail sizes, giving us a mix for the first couple of races. Posted on 18 Jun

No question on rig size - the smallest D rigs were chosen For today's racing the wind was very much in the upper numbers. The forecast was for it to drop but with 20 - 25 knits and direction NW. No question on rig size - the smallest D rig. Posted on 27 Mar

Course allows boats to be closer than normal and with more possible infringements The Race Team using the wind direction of SE and 8 knots speed set a narrow course with a wing mark to form the triangle for the triangle sausage format. This effectively gave two downwind legs, a reach along the leeward end of the course and two beats. Posted on 27 Feb
