The Rydal Penrhos Regatta proved to be another roaring success with victories for the home team in both classes despite disruptions due to the weather.
Saturday morning began with a full blown thunderstorm and, with further lightning forecast for later in the day, the decision was taken to abandon sailing for the day and a revised programme was quickly drawn up. Fortunately, Sunday's weather was greatly improved with glorious conditions, warm sunshine and a good breeze which finally permitted the first use of the new Colwyn Bay beach: a fine development and a great augmentation of facilities in the resort. On schedule, this time, twenty boats took to the water representing teams from South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club, Sedbergh School and, of course, Rydal Penrhos School.
In class one, the fast handicappers, Ewan Luke and Daisy Lee-Browne continued their run of good form in both the Eric Twiname Championships and the CYRC by coming out on top after six races and ahead of ex-Rydal Penrhos sailors, Tom and Amy Bale from SCYC. Caitlin Teece and Fraser Williams also did well, sailing strongly to finish third overall with Alex Azurza and Johannes Basler battling hard to come in as the first RS500 and fifth overall, and Zachary Blomeley and Matthew Harrison finishing seventh.
In Class two, the single-handers, Eddie Farrell also capitalised on previous good form in the CYRC and was almost faultless, with four wins out of five races to secure first place overall. Josh Peevor acquitted himself well with an overall fourth place.
It was another highly successful regatta despite the last minute schedule alterations with many congratulations to all the sailors who competed, especially to the Rydal Penrhos winners, Ewan Luke, Daisy Lee-Browne and Eddie Farrell.
