Royal Findhorn Yacht Club hosted the second of the Scottish RS Tera events this year. Being so far north we weren't sure how many would attend but were delighted to get 15 keen young sailors, with Harvey Badman coming all the way from Draycote Water!
Saturday was a training day with the fleet spilt into two groups of more and less experienced sailors. In spite of the overcast conditions and light winds, everyone had a great day learning some light winds techniques. Great singing was to be heard when crossing the finishing line of practise races and there was lots of capsizing when the game 'Pirates' was played. Parents and kids had a great Saturday evening together at the hospitable RFYC.
Sunday was race day and with four races planned in the bay it looked like it could be a struggle with fickle unpredictable winds and weather. In spite of this, in typical Findhorn fashion, the sun eventually came out and a steady wind appeared after the first race to give some good sailing for everyone and three races were completed.
Ewan Wilson showed his experience with three firsts, Kyle Cameron from Chanonry sailed very consistently, and with a second in the last race he took second place overall. Ben Cowie from Findhorn was third in one of the RFYC Eric Twiname club owned boats, just piping Isla McNeill from Findhorn to fourth. All the kids sailed well and had a lot of fun. Thank you to Findhorn for putting on a great event, especially Ian Ellis and his helpers for organising the racing, and the 'Black Caps' safety team.
The next Scottish Tera event is the Scottish Championsips at Wormit Boating club on the 9th and 10th August, with training and racing planned. It should be a great weekend with up to 25 boats expected. The week after this, Royal Tay Yacht Club near Dundee, have the next RS Tera event as part of their junior regatta on the 16th August. Hope you can make it to some events. I
f anyone would like to try a Tera we have demo boats available for events or clubs to try in Scotland. Please see www.scottishteras.weebly.com to get in touch or contact Robbie Wilson on
