Cadet Nationals at the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy - Day 2

Day 2 of the Cadet Nationals began with the expected postponement ashore while Storm Bertha blew through the South of England. The race officer and safety team deliberated for most of the morning while the sailors made the best of the conditions racing around the dinghy-park on skateboards using their coats as sails.

Prizes for the Day 1 races were presented at 11am and the more optimistic sailors were changed into their kit by the time a second postponement was announced at midday, at which point Bronze Fleet racing was canned for the day.

The wind continued to build into the early afternoon making sailing look even less likely and, sure enough, racing was called off before 2pm. By this stage a good-natured football match had started between the GBR sailors and a combined Belgium/Argentinian team. The consensus was (based on recent events at the World Cup) that GBR's numerical advantage was more than compensated for by the greater skill of the Argentinians and Belgians. Here's hoping that the sporting contest can resume back on the water on Monday.
