RC Laser Northern District TT at Blackpool and Fylde Model Boat Club

Moderate breezes from the South West dominated the day at lovely Fairhaven Lake on the Fylde coast, as the last of Summer departed. This was excellent B rig weather for the RC Lasers and 10 races were run, resulting in an emphatic victory by Shaun Holbeche, with 8 first places. Rob Wheeler was clearly not sufficiently distracted by organising the event (and sponsoring the prizes) and managed to take 2nd place on a countback from Tony Wilson on the day.

This was the final event in the Northern District Summer Series which turned out to be a Masterclass by Shaun with a perfect score in 3 counting events. Top international skipper Dave Fowler could only make second in the series, with Tony Wilson from Fleetwood a well deserved third.

The main contingent came from Fleetwood and B&F Fairhaven Lasers with Adrian Stanton making the journey from Barrow in Furness.

With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Two multiple National RC Laser champions lead the battle With a forecast predicting rain for most of the day, we were pleasantly surprised to arrive at the lakeside and still not a drop of rain. With the wind forever increasing in strength a couple of 'D' rigs were brought out The showers had just about died out on arrival, to leave us with a nice Blowy Westerly.
